Cepi Recyclability Test: A Benchmark for Paper
The CEPI (Confederation of European Paper Industries) Recyclability Test provides a comprehensive assessment for paper and recycling, evaluating the recyclability of paper and board-based products. This harmonised European laboratory test method simulates the pulping, screening, and sheet formation processes of a typical paper mill dedicated to recycling common paper grades.
Pass-Through Criteria for Successful Recyclability
The CEPI test process analyzes various factors to determine a product’s recyclability for paper recycling. These factors include:
- The extent to which fibers can be separated during the recycling process
- Visual impurities that may hinder recyclability
- Visual appearance of the material when formed into sheets
- Level of rejects from screening (coarse and fine reject)
- Presence of disrupting materials like adhesives, metals, or plastic films
- Level of dissolved or colloidal solids from non-paper components
